For most people, the work-from-home lifestyle is here to stay. But not everyone is convinced that this won’t come at a cost.
Most studies have found that working from home has actually increased productivity among white collar workers. One 2023 study found that that the average worker was 47% more productive working from home versus in the office. Many Canadian businesses have seen similar results.
Still some business leaders are apprehensive. One survey from Microsoft found 85% said the “shift to hybrid work has made it challenging to have confidence that employees are being productive.”
If you’re looking for ways to boost your productivity (and, maybe, reassure your boss) here are a few tips.
Have A Designated Work Area
Forbes, Business News Daily and the World Economic Forum all agree that a healthy working environment boost productivity. Having a proper setup will help you better designate your work and personal time, especially at home. Proper lighting, managing clutter, and ensuring you have comfortable furniture are all simple tactics to set your workspace up for success.
Stay Organized
Just like you would at the office, having a schedule or checklist will keep you accountable for all the tasks you need to complete for the day. At home, building similar routine will help you remain consistent.
Improve Communication with Colleagues
You’re the most productive when you understand your task. That means having clear lines of communication with the colleagues you rely on to get it done, which may be more difficult from home. Make a point of using collaborative platforms, including, video conferencing and business messengers, to avoid any miscommunications. When you’re not in the office, err on the side of over-communicating — it may help increase work efficiency and builds trust amongst your coworkers.
