Summer Activities for the Family In The Ottawa Valley

Are you wondering how you can get the kids out of the house this summer? There are plenty of fun family-friendly activities in the Ottawa Valley. Here are just a few of them.

Champlain Trail Museum and Pioneer Village

Learn the fascinating history of Pembroke and see the largest collection of the Ottawa Valley’s historical artifacts. The main gallery houses an exact replica of Samuel de Champlain’s astrolabe, an instrument to make astrological measurements, which he used as one of the first Europeans to explore the region.

Admission is FREE for children under 6 years old and $6.00 for adults and seniors 65+.

Pembroke Heritage Murals

Do you have a passion for art? Downtown Pembroke puts the community members talents on display with beautiful, colourful murals painted across the city walls. The earliest mural was painted in 1990 and the collection is meant to celebrate the community culture and the transition over time.

Walk along the path and get to know Pembroke’s story and the portrayal of modern life.

Huglis Blueberry Ranch

It is blueberry season from mid-July to early September, and this local ranch has 17 acres of blueberries growing, ready to be picked. Offering a variety of different blueberries (who knew there were different kinds!), families can walk through the fields or sit and enjoy snacks from the Country Market.

For children, there is also a Summer Play Park in the middle of the farm that includes, slides, a pirate maze, kid-friendly walking trails, a sand box and more.

Open weekly from 10am – 2pm and 11am – 4pm on Sundays.

Skylight Drive-In

A movie night under the stars? Skylight Drive-In is one of Pembroke’s most talked-about summer activities. For only $20.00 a car, you can watch new releases or old-time classics any day of the week.

Ensure you purchase your tickets ahead of time to reserve a good parking spot on the grounds. There is also a concession shop selling all your favourite movie night snacks.

Algonquin Park Summer Camps

Algonquin Park offers overnight summer camps for children ages 7 to 16 years old. It is a full-in camping program where they will be immersed in the wilderness and get to enjoy the tranquility of nature, complete with canoeing, swimming, hiking, and late-night campfires.

Pembroke Waterfront Park

Take a stroll down Pembroke’s waterfront park and listen to the beautiful sounds of nature. It is safe for all ages and there is a children’s play area with benches, perfect for picnicking.

Ask about the different water sports available on the Ottawa River. Pembroke is well-known for its rapids while White Water Rafting, as well as fishing, paddle boarding, boating and more.
